National Research Council Study on Neuroplasticity

In early 2010, Dr. Ryan D’Arcy, an NRC scientist whose expertise involves using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), contacted us about using Trevor as the case study for neuroplasticity or the rewiring of the brain. Conventional wisdom held that there was only a short recovery window in the period right after an injury. Together with Dr. Stephen Lindsay, a cognitive psychologist at the University of Victoria, the study involves the use of quarterly functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) based on a predetermined set of movements. Preliminary results have shown that parts of Trevor’s brain have taken over for the formerly damaged areas. Read more here.
